1B-DI's Gallery

Okay, I'm just going to post things here that I find interesting, like art and pics from my trip to India. Enjoy and add things here if you want!

My thanks to Gort for this great idea!
1B-DI

Here are a few pics (out of hundreds) from India:

Me at the Taj Mahal

Being goofy with the LKG class I taught in the Himalayas (I'm on the left, my co-teachers are to the right of me)

Two little girls who found us white people absolutely fascinating, taken in Chennai

Awww....

Mankhurd, a slum area in Mumbai. We spent two weeks here.
Sweetened Angel

1B-DI

Cloverfield

It was pretty tough. The people there had next to nothing, not even really a home to call their own. You can see that those shacks are basically just slapped together of whatever they could find. But we'd visit the people, and they'd send out their kid with their week's wages just to buy us a bottle of Coke. It was surreal.

This is another picture from the same area:
jle1993

Wow, wicked pictures, I like the Taj Mahal one
gort

You were there as a teachers' aide.....or what?

And, for how long??
1B-DI

I went with an evangelical Christian organization, we spent two months there doing various humanitarian aid projects, and part of it was going to schools in impoverished areas to teach. I taught Math (again, ugh), English, and Reading. I'm not into the religion thing anymore, but I'm really glad I got the opportunity to go and have the experience.
gort

Good for you!!!
bending_unit_22

That's cool! If only our class could do something like that. At least we would be out of school.
Gurman169

So ahh whats with these galleries

Talking about the religious side of it..Did you come across any animosity towards you...seen as they are mostly Hindu or whatever?

You disapprove?

Why on earth.....??
1B-DI

In answer to Gaz's question, it was interesting...the people were quite open to us, we encountered very little hostility at all. The worst, really, came when we were in Ladakh and the Buddhists learned we were there. They sent out a couple people to spy on us. They didn't like us.

And as for Gurman...just keeping things interesting. It was Gort's idea!! Blame him! LOL
Sweetened Angel

new pic look cool. very nice city.
gort

Yes.......I will happily take the blame/credit for making the site more fun and exciting by adding galleries. If enough people don't want to see interesting art, places or people......or images of our favorite shows.....let me know.

I'll stop.
Gazereths

If they dont want to see it they dont have to look.......Keep em coming you two!!!
gort

See Gurman???

We win!!!!!

hehehehe....
Gazereths

Careful..i wouldn't get on the wrong side of an admin... only joking..
gort

I live for trouble, mate!!

I back up my words with action!!! LOL
1B-DI

It's kinda hard to take action on the internet though...you're kind of limited to words and pictures...
gort

I would just log off......never to return.....sigh....
1B-DI

Let's hope it doesn't come to that!
Cloverfield

It WILL never come to that.
jle1993

it BETTER not come to that
gort

We'll see.....!

gort

My idea is loved!!!!!

Gurman169

I dont dissaprove im just saying where did these galleries originate from
gort

My brain.
Gurman169

Nice brain man
1B-DI

Let's see what else I have here..

My best friend (the one who's getting married) took this picture in Ladakh.

This was taken during Budh Purnima, the birth anniversary of Buddha. The Ladakhis are predominantly Buddhist and this was a big festival for them.

A Sikh temple in New Delhi.
Sweetened Angel

wow, all pic very cool. very beautiful pic.
frys_red_jacket

1B-DI

The waterbuffalo says, "MOO!"
Sweetened Angel

1B-DI

It kinda does, doesn't it? Hehe. These guys were all over India, I almost got run over by one, LOL. Don't get on a waterbuffalo's bad side, that's all I gotta say!
Guest

Haha. Now i know how to be careful when i run into waterbuffalos in D.C.
1B-DI

Yeah, watch your back! You never know when a waterbuffalo's gonna come charging down the street in DC!! hahahahaha

1B-DI

Pazuzu

"Everybody's got a water buffalo. Yours is fast
but mine is slow. Oh, where we get them, I don't know, but everybody's got a
water buffalo!" (From veggie tales!)
1B-DI

Hehe, I remember that song!
1B-DI

Here's some art for you all--MC Escher-style:

(I think this one would make a cool tattoo)

gort

I've always been a fan of Escher, but my favorite pieces are his less famous works.

Typical for me.

For example......
1B-DI

Nice! I just loved the way he was able to capture reflections and play with perspective and dimension. Freakin' sweet.

My high school art teacher had this in his classroom:
Guest

I dont know much about this stuff but the marble reflection ones look cool
gort

He's most famous ( sadly imho ) for his 'Stairs'
1B-DI

I was going to put that one up here, but I can't find it in good quality
gort

There's way more than one....here's a couple....

1B-DI

I was thinking of the first one.
Guest

Oh ya ive seen the first one. That one is pretty cool
gort

That's the one EVERYBODY thinks of.....but he's done SO much more!!!
Gazereths

Wasn't that one of the apartments fry and bender looked at??
gort

Yes.

Inside art joke for educated people.

Apparently, you're in!!
Gazereths

i dont think i'd pay for a dimension i wouldn't use either!! LOL
Sweetened Angel

wow, very cool arts pic. i like it.
1B-DI

Cloverfield

Those pictures are very confusing.
1B-DI

That's why I love them. I feel like I can just stare at them and meditate.
Cloverfield

Meditate?
1B-DI

Yup. Just clear my mind and think of nothing. You find that funny? Why I oughta.............
Cloverfield

Why you oughta ...laugh? Be my guest.
1B-DI

Haha, aren't you clever.
Cloverfield

It has been said....lol
gort

Meditation is an important part of inner peace.

And no.......I haven't meditated in 19 years.....
Gazereths

My 'piece' is outer thank you ...
gort

Ha!! A weenus joke!!

Classic Gaz!!
1B-DI

I had such hopes for this thread....

gort

Not with me and Gaz about!! LOL
gort

Here's something for your gallery......

1B-DI

There we go! Woohoo!!
gort

Your gallery needs more PICTURES!!!

To be a gallery, I mean....

I'll work on that.....although...it should be you...Hmmmm...

Okay...I won't work on it.
gort

Here's Salad Fingers for ya.....YAY!!
frys_red_jacket

gort

OMG!!.......Red!!

You should check out the Salad Fingers website!! WIERD little cartoons!!

Gaz and I are fans!!!
Cloverfield

I thought you 2 would be...
gort

Are you familiar with it Smokey?

And not a fan???
Cloverfield

No, i'm not familiar with it, but i can see why you 2 wud be
gort

Why?
Cloverfield

Coz you're into all that weird stuff.
1B-DI

I like Salad Fingers too.
gort

Okay.

Most great art forms ARE considered weird, I guess.
1B-DI

One of my favorite artists is Dante Gabriel Rossetti, who helped found the pre-Raphaelite movement in the 19th century. Here are some of his paintings:

Another great pre-Raphaelite was John William Waterhouse. These paintings were inspired by Tennyson's poem The Lady of Shalott:

gort

I've always loved Waterhouse!! A little like Tadema, eh??

Have you heard Loreena McKennits' 'The Lady of Shalot'?

It's freakin' WONDERFUL!!!
1B-DI

As near as I can tell, the lyrics are Tennyson's poem. I wish I could listen to it, but I can't find it on Rhapsody!
gort

If you buy the cd, I promise you will like it!! Can you sample it on Amazon??
1B-DI

Doing that right now
gort

Her first album is my favorite, but The Visit is a close second.....what the hell....it's not my money....

Buy 'em both!!!!!

NOW!!!!
1B-DI

Down, Gort! I might buy them sometime!

Gotta get some extra cash first. Right now I'm trying to help Mom pay off her credit card.
gort

What a nice daughter.....awwwww.....
