Why are there buttons on mens' sport coat sleeves?
Napolean.
His troops stationed in Russia were all dying of colds and flu...wiping their runny noses on their uniform sleeves. The uniforms were rotting, so Napolean ordered buttons to be sewn all around the sleeve area. The dis-comfort caused by the buttons on raw noses solved the problem, and the uniforms could be passed from the dead to the new soldiers....
That's off the top of my head.....to this day, we have a row of pointless buttons on coats.
