It isn't sympathy for him, it's that I think that ninety-something per cent of Nixon jokes (at least, since he stopped being PRESIDENT), regardless of the writers, have been really, really LAME ones, partly because the people who write them act as though he's STILL president - like those SNL ones with Dan Aykroyd (someone I normally like a lot), where he's plotting to somehow become president again. Almost a kind of paranoia about him (which is funny, since paranoia was supposed to be HIS problem). And Futurama seemed to take its cue from those SNL sketches - his head, surrounded by "minions," trying to rule the world. And for the reason I just mentioned, it's probably EASY for comedy writers to imagine the whole thing, since they don't seem to think he's gone anywhere! And I hate that, not satisfied with putting it in the first episode, and so many others, they had to squeeze it into the LAST one, with that (to me, at least) embarrassingly "preachy" joke, with the devil taking him to hell. The reason I'm complaining about it right now is that last night I stumbled on an episode I'd never seen (that sort of Nixon as "Robocop" one), and I wished I'd KEPT ON missing it. If they do bring back Futurama, I really hope they leave out the "head" jokes in general (as opposed to doing them here and there, IF they do something really witty with them), and I hope they leave out the dreary Nixon jokes altogether! |

Apparently, even dorks can put pen to paper in an eloquent way. An education doesn't always make one 'think' better.....just able to take their bad ideas to a new level in the public domain. I find it odd that someone who had not even seen the episodes in their eintirety, could form such a long winded diatribe against the writers. Opinions should be formed from knowledge of the subject matter....this guy sounds like a typical political pawn.....possibly right-wing in nature. His point is somewhat valid until you realise he mentions ONLY Nixon, and not any of the other culturally iconic figures featured in the show. This, to me, shows his politically charged theories for what they are......dorkish.
It's clear to me that the creators and writers of the show intended to use the 'heads in jars' premise as a story hook based on current popular culture, in an effort to link the viewer to a time in the future we could only imagine. Their ability to combine our time and Futuramas' time together in this way, creates a cohesive link between the characters and the viewer in a new, and hilarious way.
Really hilarious.

Nah....it's fun to read anyway! Just don't get involved....check out the listing for 'Norbit'.....I wanted info on the movie ( I think it looks horrible ), but all the posts are racailly driven and contain NO usefull imformation....kinda like 'Flyboys'....sheesh.....just talk about film, people!!!

Me too. There was this guy in a truck yesterday trying to switch lanes and he got all pissed at me when I passed him...had he used his damn turn signal, I probably would have let him over, but noooooooo, he had to be all stupid and just try to force his way over, thinking he was some big shot in his giant Chevy and I was just some poser in my tiny little Nissan. Well, nuts to him!! HA!!
