The egg came first. Allow me to explain:

Evolution is a gradual thing. It doesn't go T-Rex -> Sabretooth Tiger -> Chicken. Over time, some animal underwent gradual changes, and, after a few million years, it looked almost, but not exactly, like a chicken. Then it laid an egg that, by chance, happened to have the last little deformity that differntiated that pre-chicken from the modern chicken. Ipso facto, the egg came first.
